Abidjan will soon witness the recognition of outstanding African nations for their visionary public policies and remarkable sectoral achievements. The Builders of the African Economy platform, marking its 20th anniversary, will honor states whose strategic initiatives have driven economic and social progress across the continent.
Celebrating strategic sectors and public policy excellence
This year’s edition introduces a special category dedicated to nations that have made significant strides in key sectors through effective governance. A panel of independent experts—comprising economists, journalists, and African development specialists—evaluated candidates based on the tangible impact of their policies, economic performance, sectoral advancements, and contributions to continental integration.
Laureates recognized for transformative achievements
The prestigious awards celebrate excellence across diverse fields. The Democratic Republic of the Congo was honored for its mining sector leadership, while Côte d’Ivoire received accolades for agricultural innovation. The Seychelles were recognized in education, training, and employment, and Morocco was celebrated for its strides in health, pharmaceuticals, and environmental sustainability. Egypt was distinguished for infrastructure development, and Kenya was acknowledged for its leadership in technology, artificial intelligence, and innovation.
Additional laureates include Algeria for energy initiatives, South Africa for industrial and service sector growth, Tanzania for tourism and hospitality, and Nigeria for its creative and cultural industries. Special recognition was also granted to Namibia for gender equality and women’s empowerment, Ghana for diaspora engagement and regional integration, and Morocco for its 20-year transformation award.
Award ceremony to highlight sustainable economic models
Founder of the Builders of the African Economy, Michel Russel Lohoré, emphasized that this initiative aims to spotlight not only companies and economic leaders but also the national policies and long-term visions that underpin Africa’s sustainable economic transformation.
The jury, led by international affairs expert Valentin Mbougueng, relied on rankings from global and regional organizations, specialized publications, and firsthand field assessments to determine the winners. The gala event, scheduled for June 18 in Abidjan, will formally recognize these achievements during a celebratory evening.
Established in 2006, the Builders of the African Economy platform has become a benchmark for honoring economic actors, institutions, and investors who are committed to advancing Africa’s development through innovation and strategic vision.
