FC Nantes condemns pitch invasion after chaotic Toulouse match
Following the abandoned Ligue 1 match against Toulouse after a pitch invasion by unruly supporters, FC Nantes has issued a strongly worded statement condemning the incidents that marred the game.
Club stands firm against unacceptable behavior
In the statement released on the club’s official website, FC Nantes expressed understanding for the frustration of fans following a difficult season culminating in sporting relegation to Ligue 2. However, the club emphasized that such emotions cannot justify the actions of masked individuals who stormed the pitch at Stade de la Beaujoire, creating an intimidating atmosphere.
The club stressed: “While we recognize the distress caused by this challenging season and relegation, the values of FC Nantes, its history and identity cannot be undermined by such acts. Anger and disappointment are no excuse for the presence of hooded individuals invading the pitch, which created an atmosphere of intimidation and tension. A football stadium must remain a popular, festive and safe space for everyone.”
Call for unity and respect ahead of next season
FC Nantes extended its gratitude to the many supporters who remained calm despite the circumstances, as well as to the security teams and authorities who worked throughout the evening. The club pledged to fully cooperate with authorities, Ligue 1 authorities and state services to ensure all events are thoroughly investigated and responsibilities established.
Concluding the statement, the club called for “unity, calm and respect” to prepare for the upcoming season under the best possible conditions.
