Ousmane Sonko, President of the National Assembly, conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the spiritual leader of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
In a Facebook post, Sonko honored the late religious guide’s legacy and extended his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family, the General Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the people of Sénégal.
« With profound sorrow and great sadness, I learned of the return of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké to the Creator, the spiritual guide of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, » Sonko wrote.
Reflecting on their encounters in Guinguinéo, he shared, « During my visits to the region, I had the honor of meeting this revered religious figure on multiple occasions. Each meeting was marked by his exceptional kindness, warm hospitality, and genuine affection that left a lasting impression. »
Amid this « heartbreaking moment, » Sonko extended his « most sincere condolences » to the late leader’s family, the General Khalife of the Mourides, the religious community of Guinguinéo, and all citizens of Sénégal.
« May Allah, in His boundless mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into His eternal paradise, » Sonko concluded.
