Ousmane Sonko publicly corrects Maimouna Dièye over religious reference

During the official launch of Pastef party membership card sales, held this Saturday in Khombole, Ousmane Sonko, the party’s esteemed leader, took a moment to publicly address former minister Maimouna Dièye regarding specific comments she made.

Addressing the assembled party militants, Maimouna Dièye had expressed, “I am delighted today to be present, but more significantly, to speak under the presence of Seydina Ousmane Sonko Salalahou Aleyhi Wa Salam.” This particular religious invocation immediately drew a direct response from the Pastef leader.

When it was his turn to speak, Ousmane Sonko firmly expressed his disapproval of this religious reference, emphasizing that such an honorific should under no circumstances be attributed to his person.

“The profound affection that our people often show me can, at times, lead certain individuals to a particular level. My sister Maimouna Dièye, in her earlier remarks, pronounced my name and appended ‘Salalahou Aleyhi Wa Salam.’ I must hold my tongue,” he declared to the attentive audience.

The head of Pastef proceeded to clarify that this specific formula is exclusively reserved for Prophet Mohammed.

“Let us reserve this sacred evocation for Prophet Mohammed. For I have never attained such a spiritual stature, and I never will,” Ousmane Sonko stressed with conviction, receiving a wave of applause from the numerous activists.

This significant clarification comes as the Pastef leader continues his impactful nationwide tour, dedicated to the party’s membership card sales campaign. Following the event in Khombole, he is scheduled to visit Bargny, Bambey, and Sébikhotane as part of this ongoing political mobilization effort.
