Niger digital education transformation plan validated for 2026-2030

The Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Vocational Training convened a national workshop in Niamey on July 10, 2026, to finalize the ground analysis report for Niger’s National Strategy on Digital Transformation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The session brought together key stakeholders—educators, policymakers, and industry leaders—to review, refine, and endorse a document that will shape the future of digitalization in Niger’s TVET sector.

Launched under the African Initiative for Digital Transformation in TVET—backed by UNESCO, the African Union, the African Development Bank, the UN Economic Commission for Africa, and the GIZ-SIFA program—the initiative aims to modernize Niger’s technical and vocational education sustainably. The preliminary study surveyed over 200 participants from 57 TVET centers and support structures through field missions and digital data collection across all academic regions of the country.

The workshop, opened by the Director General of Human Resources, Statistics, and Digitalization, Dr. Djininboh Gabriel, emphasized the strategic importance of digital transformation in aligning education systems with technological shifts and emerging job markets.

Dr. Djininboh highlighted both progress and critical gaps identified in the report—governance challenges, digital infrastructure limitations, connectivity issues, energy supply constraints, trainer qualifications, and the integration of digital skills into curricula. He urged participants to strengthen the document to ensure a realistic, inclusive strategy that reflects Niger’s unique context.

Once validated, the report will serve as the foundation for Niger’s National Digital Transformation Strategy in TVET and its 2026-2030 operational action plan. The goal is to equip Niger’s technical and vocational education system with modern, high-performance tools that meet the demands of a rapidly evolving job market.
