Chad advances digital education strategy with national validation workshop

The Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Professional Training hosted a pivotal national workshop in N’Djamena to validate a groundbreaking diagnostic report. This report lays the foundation for the country’s first-ever National Strategy for Digital Transformation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The event brought together key stakeholders from across the sector to review, refine, and endorse a document that will shape the future of digital learning in Chad.

This initiative is part of the Pan-African Initiative for Digital Transformation in TVET, supported by major continental bodies including UNESCO, the African Union, the African Development Bank, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. The goal is to modernize Chad’s technical and vocational education system in a sustainable way. The preliminary study engaged over 200 participants from 57 TVET centers and supporting institutions through field missions and digital surveys spanning all academic regions of the country.

Dr. Djininboh Gabriel, Director General of Human Resources, Statistics, and Digitalization, opened the session on behalf of the State Secretary for Higher Education. He emphasized that digital transformation is no longer optional but a strategic necessity to align training systems with technological advancements and emerging job markets. The Government of Chad is positioning digital tools as a cornerstone for modernizing its TVET sector.

Dr. Gabriel highlighted that while the analysis reveals significant progress, critical challenges remain. These include governance gaps, limited digital infrastructure, unreliable connectivity, energy shortages, inadequate instructor training, and insufficient integration of digital skills into curricula. He urged participants to contribute actively to ensure the final strategy is practical, inclusive, and responsive to national realities.

With the validated report now serving as the blueprint, Chad is poised to develop a comprehensive National Digital Transformation Strategy for TVET along with a detailed action plan for 2026–2030. The ultimate aim is to build a modern, high-performing TVET system that meets the evolving demands of the labor market.
