Mali’s mohammed vi professional training center: a strategic asset for skill development

Spanning an impressive 5,200 square meters, the Mohammed VI Professional Training Center in Bamako stands as a pivotal institution, offering specialized vocational programs meticulously designed to meet the evolving demands of the Malian employment landscape. This state-of-the-art facility is set to significantly enhance local capabilities and foster economic growth across Mali.

Mamary Diarra, the National Director of Tourism, underscored the profound significance of this initiative, highlighting the excellent collaborative spirit between the States of Mali and Morocco. He emphasized that this generous donation from His Majesty Mohammed VI serves as clear evidence of the strong understanding and enduring friendship shared by the two nations. Diarra further noted that the center would provide crucial training for young Malians right here in Bamako, equipped with modern classrooms, fully operational mock restaurants, and simulated hotel environments, calling it a valuable acquisition for the Malian State.

Once fully operational, this significant infrastructure is projected to accommodate nearly 1,000 trainees annually, offering programs across 21 diverse fields. These include 12 specialized streams within the construction and public works (BTP) sector, alongside 9 distinct programs focused on the burgeoning tourism, hospitality, and catering industries.

Mamadou Minkoro Traoré, President of the Permanent Assembly of Chambers of Trades of Mali (APCMM), emphasized the profound importance of Mali having such a professional training center. He highlighted that it provides the crucial opportunity to train our youth locally, thereby eliminating the need for students to incur significant travel and accommodation expenses previously associated with training abroad, particularly in Morocco. This establishment, he noted, delivers not only high-quality education but also considerable cost savings for these Malian students.

Mamadou Traoré, a fashion designer trained in Morocco and promoter of Balimaya, stressed Mali’s urgent need for skilled human resources in vital development sectors. He praised the timely establishment of the center, expressing gratitude to the Moroccan authorities for bequeathing this Center to Mali, which will enable young Malians to acquire a trade and avoid venturing into uncertainty. This institution is poised to make a substantial contribution to the fight against youth unemployment in Mali.

During the official handover of this facility to Malian authorities last July, Oumou Sall Seck, the Malian Minister of National Entrepreneurship, Employment, and Vocational Training, underscored that this initiative directly addresses Mali’s strategic imperatives for enhancing skills development and strengthening human capital across sectors deemed essential for the nation’s economic and social advancement.
