Guinean special forces dazzle crowds at Abidjan independence parade

Abidjan – A contingent of one hundred and fifty elite soldiers, clad in distinctive camouflage fatigues, advanced with weapons at the ready. Their faces partially obscured by masks, balaclavas, and berets, they moved with precision. Led by a coordinator proudly displaying the red, yellow, and green Guinean flag, with sharpshooters positioned strategically, the unit executed its renowned “Chameleon Step,” setting a unique rhythm for their passage.

The Guinean Special Forces received thunderous applause from the public, punctuated by standing ovations and crisp military salutes from the official tribune. Their impressive display formed part of the celebrations for Côte d’Ivoire’s 66th independence anniversary.

This remarkable segment, which concluded the parade of foreign contingents in Abidjan on Friday, August 7th, generated significant buzz. Across television channels and social media platforms, journalists, bloggers, and online users widely praised the Guinean detachment’s powerful demonstration.

Ivorian admiration for the guinean display

The performance deeply impressed Ivorian spectators. Deloy Dadié, clearly captivated, shared, “I am Ivorian, but for me, this was the finest parade. It exuded such serenity; I keep rewatching it. I even downloaded the video. Thank you, Guinea.”

Brice Kouadio echoed this enthusiasm: “The best for me this year: imposing, powerful, fierce, and elegant!”

Constant Silué went further, drawing a comparison to his own nation’s military: “I enjoyed the Guinean army’s parade more than ours. This is my first time seeing the Guinean Special Forces. It’s magnificent. Many thanks, Guinea. You are truly sincere and genuine neighbors.”

National pride in Guinea

Back in Guinea, the images of the parade ignited a wave of national pride. Bory Diallo observed, “The sub-region is clearly impressed by the Guinean army.”

Ibrahima Bah highlighted the profound symbolic significance of this participation, stating, “Maintaining strong relations with our neighbors is always beneficial. There is a substantial Guinean community residing in Côte d’Ivoire, and witnessing our army parade on such an occasion fills us, Guineans, especially those living in this wonderful country, with immense pride.”

This sentiment was shared by Sekou Moriba, who remarked, “Despite everything, seeing them still fills our hearts with a sense of pride.”

Since their notable debut on October 2, 2018, during Guinea’s own independence celebrations, this elite unit has steadily cemented its reputation as one of the nation’s most spectacular and formidable military formations.
