French football league sanctionsNantes hit with empty-stadium ban after fan disturbance
The Football League’s disciplinary body has handed down a firm sanction to FC Nantes following the chaotic scenes that cut short the club’s final Ligue 1 match of the season against Toulouse.
The Ligue 1 Disciplinary Committee has delivered its verdict on the pitch invasion that marred Nantes’ final home game of the campaign. After ultras stormed the field on May 17 during the match against Toulouse—sparked by the club’s relegation to Ligue 2—the committee imposed a full stadium closure for one fixture next season.
Score stands as final
The committee also confirmed the 0-0 scoreline recorded when officials halted the game remains official.
Compounding the punishment, the Loire stand—from which the disturbances originated—will remain shuttered for two additional league matches.
While Nantes avoided the harshest possible penalty—a points deduction for next season’s Ligue 2 campaign—their reprieve came with a stern warning about fan behavior.
