Ligue 1: Nantes handed empty stadium sanction after 0-0 draw with Toulouse
The Canaris will play their first home game in Ligue 2 without supporters and face two additional matches behind closed doors.
The Ligue de football professionnel’s disciplinary committee has officially confirmed the 0-0 score from the final Ligue 1 match between Nantes and Toulouse, which was abandoned after serious pitch invasions. The decision, made public on May 27, also included sanctions against Nantes.
“After reviewing the investigation report, the committee has decided to officially validate the score at the time of definitive interruption (0-0)”, stated the LFP in an official statement. “Additionally, the committee has imposed the following penalties: one match behind closed doors at the Beaujoire stadium, followed by a two-match closure of the Loire stand”, the governing body added.
On May 17, during Nantes’ already confirmed relegation to Ligue 2, their match against Toulouse was abandoned after supporters invaded the pitch in the Loire stand. The situation escalated with smoke bombs thrown onto the field, prompting police intervention. Referee Stéphanie Frappart eventually announced the definitive abandonment “on prefectural order for safety reasons”. As a result, Nantes will commence their Ligue 2 campaign with an empty stadium for their opening home fixture.
