Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko made an early departure from the patriotic walking tour in Dakar, an event held on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Organized by Dakar’s Mayor Abass Fall, the rally was themed “the march towards 2029.”
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the head of government was unable to complete the walk alongside other attendees, citing significant crowd overflow and a lack of order at the venue.
This situation drew strong condemnation from Dakar Mayor Abass Fall, who openly criticized the undisciplined behavior displayed by some participants.
“We face a genuine challenge,” Mayor Fall stated. “It is unacceptable to invite a high-ranking official here only for people to behave without discipline. This is not right. We gathered for a walk, so why can’t individuals maintain order? Consequently, he had to leave because of this.”
When questioned by a journalist about the visible affection supporters showed for Prime Minister Sonko, Abass Fall responded, “Affection must be coupled with intelligence. One needs to be thoughtful. This represents a significant issue!”
