Algeria and Niger have taken a significant leap forward in regional energy integration through a strengthened partnership between Sonatrach and Sonidep. The two nations are now marking a new chapter in cross-border commerce and strategic collaboration across the Sahel.

First-ever Jet A1 shipments from Adrar refinery

A tangible demonstration of this growing partnership, Sonatrach has initiated the first-ever commercial deliveries of aviation fuel Jet A1 to the Nigerien market. These shipments, dispatched from the Adrar refinery (RA1D), represent the operational launch of a purchase and sale agreement between Sonatrach and Sonidep.

This inaugural supply underlines the activation of bilateral agreements and underscores Algeria’s commitment to ensuring steady petroleum product deliveries to neighboring Sahelian countries.

Joint crude oil marketing to Bénin

Beyond fuel supplies, the collaboration extends into international trade. A key milestone was achieved at the Sèmè oil terminal in Bénin, where Sonatrach and Sonidep jointly oversaw the loading of Nigeria’s first-ever shipment of ‘Meleck’ crude oil for export.

Boosting West African energy security

This collaboration between Sonatrach and Sonidep aligns with Algeria’s strategic vision to deepen economic ties with Niamey. By contributing technical expertise and an extensive export network to Niger, Algeria reinforces its role as a key player in Africa’s energy security and South-South cooperation.
