In a significant diplomatic engagement, Lomé and Kinshasa have strengthened their bilateral alliance to address the escalating security challenges in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
During a high-level meeting in Pya, Togo‘s President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé received Floribert Anzuluni, the DRC’s Minister of Regional Integration, who is currently on an official visit to the country. The discussions took place against the backdrop of cultural festivities in the Kozah region, highlighting the importance of diplomacy in fostering regional stability.
Strengthening bilateral cooperation and tackling DRC’s eastern security threats
The summit focused on two core objectives: reinforcing the partnership between Togo and the DRC, and addressing the urgent security crisis unfolding in the eastern provinces of Congo.
Both leaders exchanged views on the current security landscape, which has seen a surge in instability, and explored collaborative pathways to restore peace. The exchange underscored the critical role of regional diplomacy in mitigating conflicts that threaten neighboring states and broader West African stability.
Tribute to Togo’s diplomatic leadership in Africa
Following the meeting, Floribert Anzuluni commended President Gnassingbé for his unwavering commitment to resolving the Great Lakes crisis. The DRC minister recognized the Togolese leader’s pivotal role as the African Union (AU)‘s mediator in the eastern DRC conflict.
