Addressing growing speculation about election postponement, the PASTEF leader delivered a decisive message: “We must remember that three individuals sacrificed their lives to prevent the postponement of the presidential election.”

The 2024 legislative elections were an exception, occurring after the dissolution of the National Assembly rather than following the normal electoral calendar. “What justification could possibly exist today to postpone the first election following President Diomaye Faye’s inauguration?” Sonko questioned.

In contrast, the upcoming local elections are firmly established in Senegal’s electoral calendar. “We will not accept excuses about preparations. Elections must proceed as scheduled,” Sonko declared. “Come January 2027, voters must cast their ballots.”

As President of the National Assembly, he emphasized that these elections cannot legally be postponed. “The electoral rolls should already be under revision, yet this critical process remains incomplete,” he noted. “We fought, and some gave their lives, to prevent election delays. Today, we cannot tolerate any maneuvers to postpone them.”

Sonko expressed unwavering confidence in PASTEF’s electoral dominance, pointing to the ongoing voter card sales as a reliable indicator of future performance. “Card sales data already reveal our expected results before voting even begins. These operations serve as an excellent barometer of our electoral strength,” he concluded.
