During his inauguration rally at the Dakar Arena on Sunday, Ousmane Sonko, leader of the PASTEF party, addressed the upcoming 2027 local elections with a firm stance against any potential postponement of the vote.
Addressing party members and prominent officials, Sonko made it clear that PASTEF would not support any initiative aimed at delaying the elections. « We will not accept a postponement of the local elections. We are fully prepared, » he declared to the cheering crowd.
The political figure emphasized that any decision to postpone the elections must comply with the institutional frameworks outlined in Senegalese law. « A postponement cannot happen without approval from the National Assembly, » he stressed, urging decision-makers to take the necessary steps to ensure the elections proceed as scheduled.
Sonko also addressed speculation surrounding the election timeline, urging swift action. « The president needs to sign the decree without delay. Procrastination will not resolve anything, » he asserted.
