Ousmane Sonko, Speaker of the National Assembly, conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the spiritual leader of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, who died on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
In a poignant Facebook post, he honored the late religious figure’s legacy and extended his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family, the General Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the people of Sénégal.
« With profound sadness and deep emotion, I learned of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, who has been called to eternal rest by the Almighty », Sonko wrote.
Reflecting on their past encounters, the Speaker recalled the warm hospitality and kindness he experienced during his visits to Guinguinéo. « I had the honor of meeting this revered spiritual guide on multiple occasions. Each meeting was marked by his exceptional affection, warm welcome, and unwavering benevolence, leaving a lasting impression on me », he shared.
In this trying time, Ousmane Sonko offered « his most sincere condolences » to the deceased’s family, the Mouride community, the religious leaders of Guinguinéo, and the entire nation. « May Allah, in His boundless mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into His eternal paradise », he concluded.
