Paris final security plans revealed: champ de mars eyed for psg victory celebrations

This coming Saturday, Paris Saint-Germain is set to challenge Arsenal in the highly anticipated Champions League final in Budapest. While the match unfolds thousands of kilometers away, tens of thousands of Parisian club supporters will gather to watch the showdown at the dedicated fan zone at Parc des Princes and in various city bars. Notably, should PSG emerge victorious, the customary parade on the Champs-Élysées will not take place the following day.

With the Champions League final coinciding with several concerts across the Parisian region on the evening of May 30th, an estimated 150,000 to 200,000 individuals are expected to converge in the capital’s streets, drawn by football, tennis, or musical events. This confluence necessitates the Préfecture de Police to implement an extensive security apparatus across Paris. Regardless, the weekend poses a significant challenge for internal security forces.

Traffic restrictions will be enforced starting Friday evening at 5 PM and will remain in effect until Sunday morning. The security perimeter established by the Préfecture de Police de Paris extends broadly across the 8th arrondissement. A more confined parking prohibition will encompass the entirety of the Champs-Élysées and select avenues, such as Montaigne. These traffic limitations also extend to other districts of the capital, including the 16th and 17th arrondissements. Pedestrian access, however, will be fully permitted.

In the vicinity of Parc des Princes, where PSG is hosting its official fan zone, law enforcement agencies will implement a security arrangement typical of a major match day. This enclosed and secure fan zone proved to be a notable success during last year’s Champions League final festivities.

Beyond the Champs-Élysées: could the Champ de Mars host victory celebrations?

Just as in previous seasons, authorities meticulously plan for all potential outcomes during security briefings. Should PSG clinch victory on Saturday night, preparations for Sunday’s celebrations are already underway, coordinated closely with the capital’s club. Multiple reports confirm that the traditional Champs-Élysées parade will not take place this year, a decision ultimately announced by the 8th arrondissement town hall on Sunday evening. In 2025, these celebrations attracted an impressive 110,000 individuals to the world’s most iconic avenue. Behind the scenes, the 8th arrondissement town hall had already communicated this message to local business owners.

An alternative venue is emerging as a strong possibility: the Champ de Mars, situated in the 7th arrondissement of the capital. An informed source, while reluctant to elaborate, acknowledged that “this option is on the table,” indicating it is even the preferred choice among all involved parties. The Préfecture de Police de Paris intends to request a ban on traffic and parking around the Champ de Mars from Saturday, May 30th, at 10 PM until Sunday, May 31st, at 8 PM, to ensure “the smooth execution of a festive event.” Should this plan materialize, and in the event of a victory against Arsenal, Luis Enrique’s players could capture an iconic photo with the Eiffel Tower, a significant moment that enhances France’s and PSG’s international appeal, proving crucial for the following day’s celebrations.

When contacted, Paris Saint-Germain stated that the club is currently “fully focused on preparing for the events organized on May 30th, the day of the Final.” They further clarified that, at present, “no decision has been made and no announcement is planned” regarding any post-match celebrations following Saturday evening’s game in Hungary. “Should the occasion arise, organizational matters will be thoroughly coordinated with the relevant authorities,” the capital’s club confirmed.
