The 20-year-old goalkeeper, who has spent the last three seasons with Reims, will join Newcastle United in the English Premier League.
Newcastle United has secured the services of Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen. The French club confirmed the move, marking a significant step in the young goalkeeper’s career.
At just 20 years old, Jaouen has already established himself as one of the most promising talents in French football. His transfer places him in the Top 15 most valuable goalkeepers in football history, a testament to his rapid development.
a breakout season in France
After a series of loan spells, Jaouen delivered a standout performance this season with Reims. His 15 clean sheets were the best tally in both Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 combined, showcasing his shot-stopping prowess and composure under pressure.
The club praised him as “one of France’s most promising young goalkeepers”, highlighting his reflexes, ball-playing ability, and maturity. His first-ever call-up to the French under-21 team came this season, where he continued to impress.
a journey marked by early promise
The Stade de Reims identified Jaouen’s potential in 2023. Following an initial stint in the reserve team, he was loaned out twice—first to Rodez, where he became the youngest goalkeeper ever to start in Europe’s top five leagues and their second divisions at just 18 years old. The following season, he joined Dunkerque, helping his team reach the Coupe de France semifinals.
Beyond his on-field contributions, Jaouen was deeply involved in local youth football. He regularly coached young players at AS Gueux and even accompanied them during weekend matches across the department. Just before his departure, the kids paid him a final visit at the Raymond Kopa training center.
