Moroccan military delegation holds strategic talks in Mauritania

Led by Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone, a high-level Moroccan military delegation concluded a productive working visit to Mauritania. The visit, marked by strategic discussions and ceremonial exchanges, underscores the deepening defense partnership between the two nations.

High-profile meetings in Nouakchott

On arrival, the delegation was received by Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani. The meeting took place in the presence of Morocco’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar, signaling the importance of diplomatic and military collaboration between Rabat and Nouakchott.

Honors and strategic dialogue

Later that day, the Moroccan general visited the Mauritanian Ministry of Defense, where he engaged in bilateral talks with Defense Minister Hanana Ould Sidi. In a gesture of appreciation, the Mauritanian government awarded General Berrid the Commander grade of the National Order of Merit, presented by the President himself.

Strengthening defense ties

Following the official ceremony, the Moroccan Inspector General and Mauritania’s Chief of Staff co-chaired the sixth session of the Joint Military Commission. During the discussions, both sides reviewed progress in defense cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing regional security through shared initiatives.

Senior military officials from both countries highlighted the tangible outcomes of their partnership, describing it as a benchmark for strategic cooperation in West Africa. The outcomes of this visit are expected to further solidify military exchanges and joint operations between Morocco and Mauritania.
