Economic and infrastructure partnerships take center stage

The President of Madagascar’s Refondation Movement, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, attended the 66th anniversary of Chad’s Independence on August 11, 2026, in N’Djamena. The event, held at Place de la Nation, featured a grand military parade. Invited by President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, Randrianirina joined the celebrations alongside Guinea-Bissau’s President, General Horta N’Tam. All three leaders wore military uniforms during the ceremony.
The visit also served as a platform to enhance bilateral exchanges between Antananarivo and N’Djamena. The day before, Randrianirina and Déby held discussions focused on strengthening ties and exploring new cooperation avenues. Key topics included economic development and infrastructure projects. Randrianirina emphasized the importance of African unity, stating, « If Africans unite and support one another, the continent will thrive. »

Reinvigorating historical bonds

Randrianirina highlighted the long-standing diplomatic relations between Madagascar and Chad, noting that exchanges have waned over the years despite their shared history. Both nations share a colonial past under French rule, adopted Republic status in 1958, and gained independence in 1960. He stressed the untapped potential for collaboration in multiple sectors and announced that President Déby would reciprocate with an official visit to Madagascar to further solidify their partnership.
