Journalist aïssatou diop fall summoned over controversial ousmane sonko remarks

Propos sur Ousmane Sonko : La journaliste Aïssatou Diop Fall convoquée par la Division spéciale de cybersécurité

Prominent journalist Aïssatou Diop Fall is facing legal scrutiny following contentious remarks she made concerning political figure Ousmane Sonko, which included a call for his abduction. Despite issuing a public apology, she has been summoned to appear before investigators at the Special Cybersecurity Division to account for her statements.

Aïssatou Diop Fall has received a summons from the Special Cybersecurity Division (DSC) of the National Police. This action stems from a direct intervention by the Public Prosecutor at the High Court of Dakar, who initiated proceedings independently.

Reports indicate that the head of Public SN television channel is expected to meet with investigators this Monday. The purpose of the hearing is to address her declarations, which ignited a significant controversy across social media platforms and within the broader public sphere.

Aïssatou Diop Fall’s contentious statements

The controversy originated from a media appearance during which the journalist expressed a desire for Ousmane Sonko, the leader of PASTEF, to be abducted by terrorists. These remarks swiftly triggered widespread condemnation and criticism.

Responding to the public outcry, Aïssatou Diop Fall subsequently released a video where she offered an apology, expressing remorse for her earlier statements.

Notwithstanding her public retraction, Public Prosecutor Ibrahima Ndoye has directed the chief of the Special Cybersecurity Division to proceed with her formal summons to ensure she is questioned regarding the incident.
