Chaos unfolded immediately after the final whistle. On the Champs-Élysées, a dozen young individuals targeted a bus shelter, while nearby police units attempted to disperse the crowd. Near Porte de Saint-Cloud, officers came under fire from homemade mortars, prompting a swift response with tear gas and the first arrests. Later that evening, a fleet of shared bicycles was set ablaze, escalating tensions between demonstrators and law enforcement along the iconic avenue.

The Paris ring road became a battleground, blocked by dozens of motorcycles driving against traffic. A 24-year-old motorcyclist died after crashing into a concrete barrier erected to halt the procession. By dawn, a 17-year-old had been stabbed multiple times and remains in critical condition.

57 law enforcement officers injured

On Sunday morning, the Interior Minister confirmed 57 police officers and gendarmes were injured across France. “We observed an alarming surge in projectile attacks and mortar fire against security forces during interventions,” stated the minister. In the 8th arrondissement, footage captured an individual firing mortars in rapid succession.

Unrest spread to at least 15 cities beyond the capital. In Grenoble, rioters looted and vandalized local businesses. By Sunday’s end, authorities had processed 780 arrests nationwide, with 457 detainees still in custody.
