Eight lives lost as Boko Haram militants strike Kangaleri village in northern Cameroon

An overnight assault by suspected Boko Haram fighters in the northern Cameroon village of Kangaleri has left eight people dead and one injured, local sources confirmed Saturday.

The attack unfolded around 11 p.m. Friday, plunging the Mayo-Sava department village into chaos. Six residents were killed instantly, while three others sustained severe injuries and were rushed for medical care. Two of the wounded later died from their injuries, pushing the provisional death toll to eight. One injured survivor remained hospitalized Saturday, according to local accounts.

Following the militants’ usual pattern, the assailants launched the raid under the cover of darkness before fleeing the scene. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the attack and identify all victims.

Second attack reported in Tourou as militants target border region

Just hours after the Kangaleri attack, another Boko Haram-linked incursion was reported in Tourou, a community near Mokolo and close to the Nigeria border. Eyewitnesses described how the armed group looted livestock and goods before vandalizing a local market on the outskirts of Tourou. No casualties were immediately reported in this second incident.

Northern Cameroon remains under threat despite ongoing military operations
