Chad reaffirms Support for CEEAC with Payment of Outstanding Financial Contributions

The President of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the Economic Community of Central African States (CECAC) by ordering his government to settle all outstanding financial obligations to the organization.

This decision was made during a high-level meeting between Chad and CECAC last Monday, where Rosario Mbasogo Kung, Chairperson of the CECAC Council of Ministers, led the delegation.

During the meeting, the new leadership team of the CECAC Commission was presented to Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, composed of Ambassador Ezéchiel Nibigira as President and Ambassador Mariam Mahamat Nour as Vice-President.

A key point of the meeting was Chad’s pledge to honor its financial commitments to the organization. The President instructed his cabinet to settle all outstanding contributions from Chad to the CECAC budget.

According to an official statement, the President reaffirmed Chad’s commitment to fully contributing to the functioning of the regional organization, while also emphasizing the importance of respecting regular financial obligations.

Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno used this opportunity to reiterate Chad’s engagement in favor of CECAC, praising the organization for its role in supporting transitions in both Chad and Gabon, which resulted in the country’s return to constitutional order. He assured that Chad will continue to provide political, economic, and financial support to the institution.

Cecac officials also presented their priorities for their mandate and the main challenges facing the regional organization, including accelerating economic integration of Central African countries through improving trade exchanges, upgrading transportation infrastructure, increasing people and goods mobility, and strengthening the free trade zone.

Rosario Mbasogo Kung thanked President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno for his assurances, stating that CECAC’s success depends on both its institutions’ efforts and the commitment of member states to transform Africa into a peaceful, integrated, prosperous, and solidary space.
