CEP 2026: ensure school meals for candidates during exams

CEP 2026: school meals remain available for candidates

As the Certificat d’Études Primaires (CEP) exams approach in 2026, the Beninese government is taking proactive steps to support young learners. In an official directive, Salimane Karimou, Minister of Preschool and Primary Education, has instructed that school canteen services remain operational during the exam period, running from June 1 to June 4, 2026.

Ensuring continuity for eligible schools

This decision applies exclusively to schools already participating in the National Integrated School Feeding Program (PNASI). For these institutions, the midday break will not mean a return home or a scramble for food, but rather a guaranteed hot meal on-site, maintaining their usual routine.

Boosting candidate performance

The Minister emphasized that suspending meals during this critical academic period could be counterproductive. In his communication to regional directors, he stated:

« Many CEP candidates rely on these meals daily throughout their schooling. Withholding them during exams could negatively impact their performance. »

The goal is to prevent any physiological shock or stress related to hunger that might distract candidates during afternoon exams.

A meticulously managed logistics

Ensuring this service nationwide requires strict coordination. Regional directors have been tasked with verifying that food supplies are adequate and that service providers remain operational throughout the four days of testing.

This decision underscores that school canteens are more than just a social service—they are a vital tool for exam success. By guaranteeing nutritional stability, the Ministry ensures that candidates from eligible areas approach their exams with focused minds and well-nourished bodies.

Parents of students in participating schools can rest assured: the meal program will remain unchanged until the final papers are submitted on June 4.
