Senegal’s minister launches fierce attack on Pastef leader over president remarks
The sharp criticism leveled by Pastef leader Ousmane Sonko against President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has ignited a political firestorm in Senegal. Dr Abdourahmane Diouf, a government minister, has fired back with a scathing response, condemning what he describes as Sonko’s « intellectual void »—a stance he warns threatens the nation’s democratic foundations.
Ousmane Sonko’s recent remarks targeting President Bassirou Diomaye Faye have kept political observers on edge.
Following Sonko’s sharp comments during the 48-hour party event in Touba, where he labeled the head of state as a « manipulable president, » Dr Abdourahmane Diouf wasted no time in hitting back. In a sharply worded statement, the minister—a member of the ruling party—directly challenged the Assembly president’s stance without naming him explicitly, exposing what he sees as deep flaws in his approach.
In a blistering post on social media, Diouf declared: « Thiey Sénégal! This is what happens when an opportunistic deputy occupies the Speaker’s chair; procedures are disregarded without grasp of their essence; morality preached is suffocated by an inability to embody it; analytical rigor crumbles under the weight of glaring intellectual vacuity; truth gives way to reckless manipulation, paving the way for a hollow revolution without solid guidance. The Republic! Only the Republic!»
