PSG vs Arsenal: Champions League final kicks off at 6pm CET this Saturday

Football fans, mark your calendars carefully for this Saturday’s Champions League final. For the first time in history, the traditional 9pm kick-off has been scrapped. Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal will face off at the Puskas Arena in Budapest at 6pm CET instead.

This unprecedented shift isn’t a scheduling error. UEFA’s decision to move the match forward by three hours is part of a deliberate long-term strategy to make the tournament more family-friendly and accessible to global audiences. The new timing aims to accommodate younger viewers, early risers in Asia, and afternoon spectators in the Americas.

The final will be broadcast live on Canal+ and Canal+ Foot in France, with streaming available on the encrypted platform. French viewers will need to adjust their evening plans, while fans in New York can catch it at noon, Los Angeles at 9am, and Tokyo at 1am.

Why the early kick-off?

UEFA’s move targets multiple objectives. By starting at 6pm, the governing body hopes to include children and families who traditionally miss late-night fixtures. The change also aligns with the growing demand for sports content at unconventional hours, boosting global viewership across time zones.

The new schedule benefits international audiences most. Asian markets, which previously had to stay up well past midnight, now get a more manageable start time of midnight in Beijing and 1am in Tokyo. The previous year’s final drew nearly 12 million French viewers at 9pm; this year’s earlier slot could expand that reach significantly.

Logistical and security adjustments

The change affects more than just broadcast schedules. In Budapest, fans leaving the stadium after the final (around 8pm without extra time) will find a lively city center ready for celebrations. The UEFA’s shift also eases pressure on public transport and local businesses.

Paris prepares differently too. Police have adapted security measures to this new timeline. Traffic restrictions in the 8th, 16th, and 17th arrondissements begin at 3pm, with périphérique exits closing by 5pm—an hour before kick-off. Authorities have also ruled out a victory parade on the Champs-Élysées, opting instead for a celebration on the Champ-de-Mars.
