On May 7, 2026, Faure Gnassingbé, who serves as both President of the Council and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, undertook a crucial visit to the Operation Koundjoaré zone in northern Togo. This strategic tour aimed to assess the prevailing security landscape and provide direct support to the military personnel actively involved in combating terrorist threats.
During his mission, the Supreme Commander received an operational briefing at the Command Post. Subsequently, he proceeded to the forward operating base in Tchamonga, identified as a pivotal strategic location within the comprehensive security framework.

Addressing the soldiers deployed on the ground, President Faure Gnassingbé commended their unwavering commitment and resolve in safeguarding the national territory. He also issued updated directives designed to bolster the operational effectiveness of the units stationed in the area.

This significant visit underscores the Togolese authorities’ dedication to maintaining a consistent presence alongside the Defense and Security Forces (FDS). Furthermore, it aligns with the government’s holistic strategy, which integrates military operations, community resilience initiatives, and diplomatic collaboration to ensure enduring stability across the Savanes region.
