Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé is set to undertake an official visit to Kampala on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. This diplomatic trip, extended at the invitation of Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, signifies a mutual commitment to strengthening the cooperative bonds between Togo and Uganda.
During his stay, the Togolese head of state is scheduled for a private meeting with his Ugandan counterpart. Their discussions are expected to encompass vital subjects such as peace initiatives, regional security challenges, and the advancement of African integration, especially considering the persistent instability observed in the Great Lakes region.
President Gnassingbé will also be a distinguished guest at the official swearing-in ceremony for Yoweri Museveni, who secured re-election in the general elections held on January 15. The solemn event in the Ugandan capital is anticipated to draw numerous African heads of state, government officials, and representatives from various international organizations.
According to the Togolese presidency, this visit underscores both nations’ dedication to reinforcing their political and diplomatic partnership. Lomé and Kampala already maintain regular consultations on several critical African security matters, notably the complex situation in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has been grappling with armed conflicts and an enduring humanitarian crisis for years.
Through this significant engagement, Togo reiterates its unwavering commitment to fostering dialogue, promoting regional stability, and enhancing cooperation among African states.
