Pastef leadership convenes in cité keur gorgui for crucial strategic discussions

With its inaugural national congress less than three weeks away, Pastef’s executive committee convened on Friday, May 15, at the Cité Keur Gorgui residence of their esteemed leader, Ousmane Sonko. The primary objective was to initiate the party’s most extensive structural transformation. Prominent figures and core strategists, including El Malick Ndiaye, Birame Souleye Diop, Yassine Fall, Daouda Ngom, and Ayib Daffé, were among those who answered the call.

The agenda for the meeting was entirely shaped by the pressing political landscape of the upcoming weeks. Discussions largely centered on the logistical and political dimensions of the national congress, which is firmly scheduled for June 6, 2026. While the exact venue remains under consideration, Diamniadio has emerged as a potential location for this pivotal event.

Ousmane Sonko views the congress’s success as paramount. The Pastef leader aims to unequivocally demonstrate the enduring breadth of the party’s political influence. “We must ensure the congress is a success and reignite the party’s base,” he conveyed to his closest advisors. Beyond the immediate focus on the congress, Sonko also underscored the critical necessity of restructuring Pastef to achieve greater clarity and operational efficiency.

The leader of the Patriots further addressed the vital task of remobilization. He emphasized the imperative of engaging directly with communities across the nation, extending outreach to even the most remote areas. Concluding the gathering, El Malick Ndiaye, a senior Pastef official and President of the National Assembly, shared a message of optimism. He asserted that “beyond current challenges, bright prospects are unfolding for our nation and our collective project. These are prospects brimming with hope, advancement, and national sovereignty, which we will continue to build together, with unwavering faith, discipline, and commitment.”
