A joint security commission recently executed an extensive anti-crime sweep across several areas identified as high-crime zones within N’Djamena. This large-scale intervention involved a substantial deployment of law enforcement and security units, including the Garde Nationale et Nomade du Tchad (GNNT), the Gendarmerie Nationale, the Police Nationale, the Police Judiciaire, and other specialized agencies. The coordinated effort led to the detention of 252 individuals and the seizure of numerous illicit items and substances.

Targeted neighborhoods in the capital

Specific targets for this operation included sectors such as Mandjakoli in the 5th arrondissement, Roma, Bildo, and Katanga in the 2nd arrondissement, along with Colombie and various other neighborhoods across the capital city.

Hachim Haroum Deby, the Director of Public Security, confirmed that the sweep resulted in the arrest of individuals involved in both the sale and consumption of various illicit narcotics. Among the contraband confiscated were drugs commonly referred to as «Colorado» and «Bongo,» alongside quantities of adulterated alcohol.

Leadership and seized items

The mission was executed under the direct oversight of the Director General of the Gendarmerie Nationale, who also serves as the Deputy President of the Joint Control and Verification Commission. Key participants in the operation also included the 1st Deputy Police Controller General and the 2nd Deputy Commander of the Garde Nationale et Nomade du Tchad (GNNT).

Following the intervention, a total of 252 individuals were presented to the media. Security forces additionally confiscated a range of items, including weapons, computers, mobile phones, and 25 motorcycles.

The comprehensive results of this significant operation were subsequently presented to the Minister of Public Security and Immigration, General Ali Ahmat Aghabache.

This latest initiative underscores the continuous efforts by Chad’s internal security forces to bolster citizen safety, uphold public order, and combat all manifestations of criminality, particularly the trafficking and consumption of illicit substances within the capital.
