Morocco strengthens commitment to un peacekeeping missions

Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita welcomed Jean-Pierre Lacroix, UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, in Rabat for his second official visit this year.

During their meeting, both officials discussed Morocco’s pivotal role and consistent contributions to un peacekeeping operations.

Morocco’s commitment stems from a strategic vision rooted in over six decades of participation in un peacekeeping since 1960.

Ranked ninth among the top troop-contributing countries to un peacekeeping missions, Morocco currently chairs the un Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for 2026 and serves as coordinator for the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on peacekeeping matters. This leadership underscores the trust the international community places in Morocco’s approach to global peace and security.

Lacroix’s visit aligns with the un Secretary-General’s sweeping reform agenda, including the ‘UN 80’ initiative to streamline the organization’s operations and a comprehensive review of peacekeeping strategies and international peace and security frameworks, aiming to prioritize political solutions in conflict resolution.
