Morocco dedicates longest African highway to Donald Trump in Western Sahara

In a symbolic gesture, King Mohammed VI of Morocco has named the country’s longest highway after former US President Donald Trump. The 1,055-kilometer Tiznit-Dakhla expressway, now officially called the “Donald J. Trump Highway,” stretches from southern Morocco into the disputed Western Sahara territory.
Honoring a historic diplomatic decision
The royal decision, announced through an official letter sent to Trump on July 2, commemorates the former US president’s 2020 recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara. In his communication, King Mohammed VI emphasized that this recognition “will forever remain etched in the memory of the Moroccan people.”
Longest road infrastructure in Africa
Stretching 1,055 kilometers, the highway stands as Africa’s most extensive road network. Its completion marks a significant milestone for Moroccan infrastructure development and regional connectivity.
Donald Trump responded to the honor on Truth Social, expressing his enthusiasm: “Thank you to His Royal Highness King Mohammed VI. What an immense honor! I look forward to one day traveling the entire length of this magnificent highway. Let’s hope it happens soon!” Rabat has yet to formally acknowledge Trump’s statement.
