A military serviceman deployed in Chad’s volatile Lac region has filed a lawsuit against his wife and her companion, accusing them of adultery. The case, which also involves a dispute over dowry payments, unfolded at the N’Djamena court after a dramatic confrontation.

Marital breakdown triggers legal dispute

The breakdown stems from prolonged separation due to the husband’s military duties. Stationed in the high-risk Lac-Tchad zone, he left his wife and three children behind when he departed for his mission. Upon returning, he found the household abandoned and his wife missing. Tracking her phone led him to N’Djamena’s Bakara district, where she was living with a civilian man.

The soldier immediately traveled from Lac to the capital, where he located the couple and alerted authorities. Gendarmes intervened, detaining both individuals and transferring them to the Klessoum detention center pending trial.

Adultery charges and financial demands

During police questioning, the wife firmly stated her refusal to reunite with her husband, insisting she preferred her new partner. The prosecutor pressed for strict legal consequences, requesting fines of 100,000 CFA francs for each defendant. Additionally, the military plaintiff demanded the return of his dowry, valued at two million CFA francs.

The defense argued that the wife had endured emotional neglect during her husband’s extended absence, portraying their separation as an injustice.

Trial adjourned pending verdict

After heated arguments from both sides, the court adjourned the case for deliberation. A final ruling is expected in the coming days, leaving the fate of the accused—and the disputed dowry—hanging in the balance.
