The Moroccan experience in social and solidarity economy is being showcased at Dakar, on the opening day of the second edition of the African Forum for Social and Solidarity Economy (FORA’ESS Dakar 2026).
Introducing a speaker at an atelier on the theme ‘Citizen Transition and Social Performance: Measurement and Impact’, Dr Khadija Douiri, a professor-researcher at the Faculty of Economic, Juridical and Social Sciences of Mohammed Premier University in Oujda, emphasized that social and solidarity economy is today one of the priorities of development, not only in Morocco but also in other African countries.
Dr. Douiri, who participates in the forum as a member of the scientific committee, pointed out that social and solidarity economy is not an alternative, but a true sector on which it is possible to rely to stimulate development, reinforce economic actors’ contribution and increase their participation in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
She also highlighted Morocco’s experience in this field, emphasizing that the country has an important network of cooperatives contributing to job creation and wealth generation, particularly in the Oriental region. She stressed the need to continue developing the social economy ecosystem through a mobilization of all involved actors.
The Moroccan academic also praised efforts made by the Kingdom to promote this sector, through actions carried out by the Department for Social and Solidarity Economy, in cooperation with economic and financial actors.
The Kingdom is represented at this meeting by a delegation composed of Issam Bousalam and Raouf El Yagoubi, professors-researchers at Mohammed Premier University.
The second edition of FORA’ESS Dakar brings together around 250 participants from 33 African countries and beyond on the theme ‘Social Economy and Solidarity: Motor for Transition, Inclusion, and Convergence in Africa’.
This edition includes plenary sessions dedicated to the Union African strategy for social economy and solidarity over the next decade, the role of local authorities in developing this sector, and mechanisms supporting its implementation.
