The Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalization and Innovation and the Gabonese Business Federation (FEG) have kickstarted a groundbreaking initiative in Libreville. Held at the headquarters of the Central African States Bank (BEAC), the launch marks the beginning of Kimba Connect 2026, Gabon’s first national open innovation challenge.
This program is designed to bridge the gap between businesses facing transformation challenges and local startups equipped to deliver cutting-edge digital solutions. By fostering collaboration, it creates a platform where established enterprises can connect with agile, innovative young companies ready to tackle real-world problems with technology.
The initiative follows a structured approach: companies submit their specific challenges, and startups respond with tailored digital proposals. The most promising projects will receive dedicated mentorship and support to refine their solutions and bring them to market.
Interested participants have until 11:59 PM on July 14 to submit their entries. A rigorous preselection phase will take place on July 24, culminating in a grand finale scheduled for August 4, 2026.
Speaking at the launch, Mark Alexandre Doumba, Minister of Digital Economy, emphasized the program’s core philosophy: “True innovation only matters when it solves real needs.” He highlighted how Kimba Connect 2026 will empower businesses to turn obstacles into growth opportunities while giving startups unprecedented visibility and market access.
The initiative aligns with Gabon’s broader digital transformation strategy, aiming to accelerate the country’s technological evolution. By promoting open innovation, it seeks to strengthen ties between the private sector and startups, spotlight local talent, and enhance the nation’s economic competitiveness.
Government officials are confident that this collaboration will not only modernize enterprises but also nurture homegrown entrepreneurship and diversify the economy. The ultimate goal is to position Gabon as a hub for digital innovation in Central Africa.
