The Senegal national football team continues to make headlines months after their controversial CAN 2025 victory. Midfielder Pape Gueye has firmly declared that he will not return his Africa Cup of Nations medal to Morocco, despite the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to strip Senegal of their title.
Pape Gueye insists Senegal are legitimate champions
Speaking to L’Équipe, Pape Gueye—who scored in the 1-0 extra-time win over Morocco on January 18—stated unequivocally that Senegal remain the rightful champions of Africa. While the match was played on the field, the CAF has controversially overturned the result based on procedural irregularities.
