El Hadj Amadou Sy to represent Sénégal at CAN U17 2025 referee workshop

The Confédération africaine de football (CAF) has officially announced the roster of match officials invited to the preparatory training camp for the upcoming U17 Africa Cup of Nations. This crucial stage precedes the final selection of referees who will oversee the tournament, scheduled to take place in Maroc from May 13 to June 2.

In this preliminary selection, El Hadj Amadou Sy stands as the sole representative from Sénégal. Following the conclusion of this preparation phase, the CAF will finalize the list of officials designated for the CAN U17 in Maroc. Since becoming a FIFA international referee in 2019, El Hadj Amadou Sy has consistently demonstrated his growth in the field. Originally from Saint-Louis, his career began in the local “navétanes” youth competitions before he successfully transitioned through the senior ranks and established himself in the professional league of Sénégal.

With significant experience in continental tournaments, El Hadj Amadou Sy is no stranger to high-stakes matches, having previously officiated during the 2023 CAN U20 and the most recent CAN U17. While Sénégal has historically seen multiple referees or even full officiating trios selected for such events, Sy will be the lone individual representing the nation this time. He aims to secure his spot on the definitive list to represent Sénégal on the international stage, especially as the national youth team is also set to participate in the competition.

Regarding other participating nations, Algérie, Cameroun, RD Congo, Maroc, Zambie, and Afrique du Sud lead the way with three representatives each. Meanwhile, countries such as Tunisie, Mali, Nigeria, and Égypte have two referees included in the current selection.
