Road to Los Angeles 2028: Sénégal meets Tunisie
The Sénégal women’s national football team is preparing for a crucial double-header against Tunisie in the second round of the LA28 Olympic qualifiers. This pivotal matchup is scheduled to take place in October 2026.
The official draw for the African women’s Olympic qualifying tournament was held on Wednesday, April 29. This event outlined the full schedule for a competition that will span from June 1, 2026, until December 4, 2027.
Tournament structure and early rounds
The qualification process consists of five distinct rounds, all played in a home-and-away format. The first round is reserved for the six lowest-ranked nations according to the FIFA world rankings. In these opening fixtures, Soudan will play the Comores, Soudan du Sud will face Madagascar, and Maurice will compete against Djibouti.
The majority of participating nations will enter the fray during the second round in October. This includes Maroc, the finalists of the most recent Women’s AFCON, who are set to play Congo. A potential heavyweight encounter with Nigéria—the current African champions and Paris 2024 participants—could happen as early as the third round.
Key matchups for African nations
After their second-round clash with Tunisie, the winner of the Sénégal tie will move on to face either Mali or Bénin. Meanwhile, Algérie will begin their journey toward the Los Angeles Games by taking on the République centrafricaine.
Finally, Zambie, having competed in the Paris 2024 Olympics, must first defeat Ouganda. If successful, they may face Ghana in their pursuit of a third consecutive Olympic qualification.
