Côte d’Ivoire: strategic investments to boost local animal and fishing production

Côte d’Ivoire is poised to significantly enhance its domestic animal and halieutic output, aiming to lessen its reliance on foreign goods. This comes as the nation’s expenditures on imported meats and offal reached an alarming 782 billion CFA francs in 2024, as confirmed by Bouadi Beda Paul, Director of Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Animal and Halieutic Resources (MIRAH).

Speaking on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, in Jacqueville, during a workshop focused on refining the Multi-Year Spending and Annual Performance Projects Document (DPPD-PAP) for 2027-2029, Bouadi Beda Paul emphasized the critical need for a budget framework that prioritizes measurable results to effectively tackle the sector’s challenges.

According to his statements, the National Policy for Livestock, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Development (PONADEPA) 2026-2030 is specifically designed to bolster food sovereignty and stimulate private sector investments within these vital industries.

“In a management approach driven by outcomes, the development of the DPPD-PAP is no longer merely an option but an absolute necessity,” Bouadi Beda Paul asserted.

A strategic workshop for future planning

The workshop, orchestrated by MIRAH’s financial affairs directorate, runs from July 29 to 31, bringing together senior officials from various ministry departments. Their collective objective is to pinpoint the most pressing needs and strategic priorities for the upcoming three-year period.

The comprehensive document emerging from these deliberations will meticulously outline the ministry’s overarching objectives, detail the specific actions to be undertaken, and establish clear monitoring indicators to rigorously assess the utilization of public resources.

Furthermore, the Director of Financial Affairs actively encouraged young Ivorians to explore careers in livestock farming, pisciculture, and aquaculture, highlighting these sectors as promising avenues replete with employment opportunities.
