Abidjan — On July 15 and 16, 2026, Côte d’Ivoire will host the second edition of the International Skills and Occupations Forum (FIMEC) in Abidjan. Under the high patronage of Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé, the event seeks to position professional training as a key driver for employment, economic competitiveness, and sustainable development.
The forum is organized by the National Agency for Professional Training (AGEFOP), under the Ministry of Employment, Social Protection, and Professional Training. Its guiding theme, ‘Skills, Employment, and Economic Transformation in Africa: The Strategic Role of Professional Training,’ reflects the government’s commitment to integrating training, decent work, and social protection into a unified public policy.
This initiative aligns with President Alassane Ouattara’s vision and the priorities outlined in the 2026-2030 National Development Plan (PND). The plan elevates human capital as a cornerstone for structural economic transformation, with professional training serving as a critical tool to achieve inclusive growth.
With over $80 billion in funding committed by technical and financial partners to support the PND, the development of relevant skills is now seen as essential to convert these investments into sustainable jobs, shared prosperity, and inclusive economic progress.
a platform for dialogue and innovation
The two-day event will bring together government officials, ambassadors, international organization representatives, technical and financial partners, business leaders, researchers, experts, and vocational training stakeholders. The program features high-level panels, masterclasses, technical workshops, live skill demonstrations, and direct interaction spaces between enterprises and learners.
addressing future challenges
Discussions will focus on emerging challenges such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, green skills, soft skills development, and evolving job market demands. The goal is to equip young people, workers, and businesses with the competencies needed to navigate rapid technological and economic changes.
showcasing success through training
The forum will also highlight inspiring case studies of individuals who have transformed their careers through professional training. These stories will underscore how targeted vocational education enhances employability, fosters entrepreneurship, and ensures skills align with industry needs.
