Bénin extends deadline for civil engineers to register with national council

The Ministry of Habitat and Transport has granted civil engineers in Bénin an additional 30 days to complete their registration with the National Council of Civil Engineers. Professionals now have until the end of the month to finalize their applications through the online portal.

Georges Alé: Bénin's Minister of Habitat, Transport and Sustainable Development

What the extension means for Bénin civil engineers

The decision follows an official announcement by Minister Georges Alé, who emphasized that the extension aligns with the provisions outlined in Article 65 of Decree No. 2021-300 of June 9, 2021, which governs the organization of the civil engineering profession in Bénin.

This move ensures that all qualified professionals—whether based in Bénin or abroad—have sufficient time to register. Eligible engineers include those holding recognized degrees in civil engineering, professional master’s degrees accredited by the State and CAMES, or equivalent qualifications.

Who can register and how

The registration process applies to professionals across multiple specializations, including:

  • Building and public works
  • Geotechnics
  • Transport infrastructure
  • Hydraulics
  • Energy infrastructure
  • Sanitation and environmental engineering
  • Electronics, IT, and telecommunications

Interested candidates are required to submit their applications through the official portal at www.onic.bj within 30 days of the announcement. The Ministry urges all eligible engineers to complete their registration promptly to support the establishment of the first-ever National Council of Civil Engineers of Bénin.

The initiative aims to formalize the profession and ensure compliance with national standards, fostering greater accountability and professionalism within the sector.
