The United States Embassy in Bamako has issued a strong advisory for American citizens currently in Mali’s capital, urging them to exercise heightened caution in their movements due to intensified security measures across key areas of the city.

According to the latest guidance, Malian authorities have significantly bolstered security protocols, particularly around routes leading to Modibo Keita International Airport and several neighborhoods in Bamako. Additional checkpoints, roadblocks, and potential road closures are expected to cause significant disruptions to daily traffic, necessitating careful planning for any travel within the city.

With religious festivities such as Aïd al-Adha (Tabaski), scheduled for May 27, coinciding with this security reinforcement, the Embassy has emphasized the need for American citizens to minimize non-essential travel until the end of the month. The heightened security concerns during this period require residents and visitors to remain vigilant and avoid large gatherings or demonstrations at all costs.
