On the 27th anniversary of Morocco’s Throne Day, King Mohammed VI received a special message from the President of the United States, Donald Trump. In this communication, the American leader reaffirmed Washington’s unwavering stance on the Western Sahara issue, explicitly endorsing Morocco’s autonomy plan as a viable path toward a lasting resolution.
The U.S. position was unequivocally stated: “The United States recognizes Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and supports the Moroccan autonomy proposal as a serious, credible, and realistic foundation for a fair and sustainable solution,” Trump wrote.
He went on to emphasize that alternative approaches only perpetuate the existing stalemate, calling them “unacceptable”. “This dispute must end now, and the United States will continue to drive progress toward this goal,” he asserted, underscoring America’s commitment to facilitating a resolution.
In his congratulatory message to the Moroccan monarch and its people, Trump highlighted the 250-year history of friendship and cooperation between the two nations. He described this relationship as “built on mutual trust and respect,” reaffirming the enduring bond between the United States and Morocco.
The American president also praised King Mohammed VI’s “wise leadership,” describing him as a “pillar of stability” in the region. He commended Morocco’s pivotal role in fostering peace, combating extremism, and bolstering security—particularly through the historic Abraham Accords—and emphasized the nation’s contributions to regional stability in the Sahel.
Expanding economic and strategic partnerships
Trump announced plans to deepen collaboration across key sectors, including technology, innovation, energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense. He instructed his administration to prioritize initiatives that would enhance economic and social development in Morocco, with a particular focus on the Western Sahara region. “Together, we will forge a new era,” he concluded, stressing the importance of aligning efforts with the shared interests of both nations.
