Togo’s president meets afreximbank chairman to discuss investment opportunities

On Monday in Lomé, President Faure Gnassingbé held a crucial meeting with Dr. George Elombi, Chairman of the Board of Afreximbank. Their dialogue centered on bolstering the existing partnership between Togo and the prominent pan-African financial institution, alongside exploring significant investment prospects across various strategic sectors within the nation.

During this high-level engagement, both leaders delved into multiple avenues designed to fast-track the industrial processing of Togo’s indigenous resources. Key areas of discussion included the vital phosphate sector, the generation of energy specifically for industrial zones, and innovative strategies for enhancing the value of African raw materials.

Dr. George Elombi shared insights into their discussions, stating, “We engaged in talks concerning wealth creation through the transformation of Togolese primary products. Our conversation specifically covered phosphate, energy production for industrial hubs, and other topics pertinent to raw material processing across African nations.”

The Afreximbank executive further reiterated his institution’s unwavering commitment to support Togo in securing essential financing and technical collaborators. This support aims to facilitate the advancement of the country’s industrial development initiatives.

Dr. George Elombi’s presence in Lomé coincided with the 3rd annual Biashara Afrika business forum, an event co-hosted by the Togolese government and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

This significant meeting underscores Togo’s increasing appeal to international investors and financial partners. It also clearly demonstrates the Togolese authorities’ strategic vision to champion the local processing of natural resources as a primary driver for economic expansion and value creation throughout the African continent.
