In an era of rapid digital transformation, the Republic of Chad is taking decisive action to equip its youth with the tools needed for safe and responsible internet use. On May 12, 2026, the National Library in N’Djamena hosted the official kickoff of a groundbreaking workshop designed to educate 100 young Chadians on digital citizenship and misinformation mitigation.
Building a safer digital future for Chadian youth
The initiative, titled « Advocating for an inclusive and secure digital space for Chadian youth », represents a collaborative effort between the local organization House of Africa and the European Partnership for Democracy. Its core mission is to shift the narrative around digital platforms from potential threats to powerful tools for societal progress.
A response to growing digital threats
The workshop launch comes at a critical time when misinformation, hate speech, and online manipulation pose increasing risks to national cohesion and social stability. As highlighted by the project coordinator during the opening ceremony, « a single message can either unite a nation or fuel its division ». This underscores the urgency of empowering young Chadians with the skills to navigate the digital landscape responsibly.
From passive users to digital guardians
Over the course of the training, participants will receive hands-on guidance from national experts in digital sovereignty. The curriculum extends beyond basic digital literacy to cover advanced topics such as artificial intelligence mechanisms, cybersecurity fundamentals, and viral content verification techniques (fact-checking). The goal is clear: transforming these 100 youth from mere digital consumers into proactive ambassadors of responsible online behavior within their communities.
Youssouf Allafouza Mahamat, Secretary-General of House of Africa, emphasized the symbolic significance of the participants’ commitment. « These young people are not just learning to use technology—they are embracing their role as guardians of a safer digital future for Chad », he stated. The initiative sends a powerful message: Chadian youth are ready to take control of their digital destiny.
