Shocking video revelations in the Martinez Zogo case in Cameroon

The broadcast of a video depicting the final moments of journalist Martinez Zogo evoked profound emotion within the courtroom.

Memorial de Martinez Zogo

In Cameroon, the Martinez Zogo case reached a pivotal and deeply moving point at the Yaoundé Military Tribunal. Over two days, on June 1st and 2nd, judges unveiled, for the first time, video footage capturing the journalist’s harrowing final moments. These images, characterized by extreme brutality, profoundly affected his family and friends, casting a somber and emotional atmosphere over the entire courtroom.

A video that stirs profound emotion

A heavy, almost unbearable silence descended upon the Yaoundé Military Tribunal’s courtroom on June 1st, 2026. Suddenly, Martinez Zogo appeared on screen, lying on the ground, his body bearing visible marks of severe abuse. Covered in blood, he struggled to speak, repeatedly pleading for assistance. The scenes were undeniably harrowing and difficult to endure.

Overwhelmed, the court temporarily suspended the proceedings. Attorney Ludovic Sabze remarked on the palpable emotional impact, stating, “Emotionally, it’s intense, very intense. I believe I am not the only one feeling this way.

The following day, as deliberations resumed, the emotional tension persisted. Faces remained grim, minds still reeling from the previous day’s disturbing footage. These critical images were revealed to have originated from the Google account of Warrant Officer Godje Oumarou Vincent, who was an agent serving at the Directorate General of External Research (DGRE) at the time.

These critical details were brought to light by Georges Bell Bitjoka, a cybercrime expert and a witness for the prosecution. Maître Calvin Job, the legal representative for Martinez Zogo’s family, views this development as a significant breakthrough in uncovering the truth. According to him, “This report completely reconfigures the evidence. It invalidates everything we’ve been told from the beginning.” He further commended “the exceptional quality of the work, research, and technical expertise demonstrated by this expert,” asserting that if “the tribunal relies on this report, it will have completed 98% of its task.

However, a crucial question continues to loom over these proceedings: who orchestrated the abduction and torture of Martinez Zogo? At this juncture, no clear mastermind has been definitively identified.

A sense of ‘unfinished business’ persists

“The expert demonstrated a surge in communications between Amougou Belinga and Justin Danwe from January 18th to 28th, spanning the period between the journalist’s abduction and the discovery of his body. He also mentioned physical meetings. However, he noted the existence of deleted content that he could not access. This leaves a lingering sense of unfinished business,” lamented Paul Chouta.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Georges Bell Bitjoka clarified that the 18% of data successfully extracted from businessman Jean-Pierre Amougou Belinga’s phone is insufficient to either establish his guilt or exonerate him completely.

In light of this, the legal team representing Martinez Zogo’s beneficiaries has formally requested additional expert analysis to recover and examine the deleted communications between Justin Danwe and Jean-Pierre Amougou Belinga.

This request, if granted, could potentially illuminate some of the remaining ambiguities surrounding this complex case. The trial has been adjourned, with proceedings set to resume on June 22nd and 23rd.
