Government Urged to Act Decisively

Aboubakary Abdoulaye, President of the Senate and Lamido of Rey Bouba, issued a solemn call for stronger government action against sexual violence targeting children and femicides in Cameroon during the opening of the second ordinary session in Yaoundé.

The address, delivered in the presence of Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, the National Assembly president, and multiple government officials, highlighted the devastating impact of these crimes on victims’ dignity, bodily integrity, and lives.

National Outrage Over Recent Child Abuse Case

This strong stance follows widespread public outrage over the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl in Yaoundé. The incident triggered mass protests and sparked urgent discussions about strengthening child protection measures and intensifying efforts to prevent and punish gender-based violence.

“Sexual abuse of women and children, along with femicide, must be combated with unwavering determination,” Abdoulaye declared, emphasizing the need for authorities to put an end to these horrific acts.
