The Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olivier Nduhungirehe, addressed the media this week following the sixth joint peace committee meeting between Kigali and Kinshasa in London. The discussions focused on de-escalating tensions, particularly in the Minembwe region, and expanding the ceasefire verification mechanism’s mandate. Yet, these commitments come as Washington intensifies sanctions targeting Rwandan officials and businesses accused of facilitating illegal gold and coltan trafficking from areas controlled by armed groups like the M23.
