During a recent press briefing, Deputy Amadou Ba disclosed what he described as the true nature of telephone conversations between Ousmane Sonko and former Prime Minister Aminata Touré. According to the Pastef lawmaker, Ms. Touré made highly critical remarks about Bassirou Diomaye Faye during one of these calls.
During a press conference held by Pastef-Les Patriotes, Deputy Amadou Ba unveiled what he asserted to be the “truth” regarding telephone exchanges that reportedly occurred between Ousmane Sonko and Aminata Touré while the current Prime Minister was incarcerated. This disclosure serves to reinforce Mr. Ba’s defense of the head of government amidst ongoing controversy surrounding the management of public funds.
The deputy claimed that the former Prime Minister expressed profound criticism towards Bassirou Diomaye Faye during this particular call. “Diomaye is incapable of leading this country. If you leave him here, he will not last two years,” Ms. Touré allegedly told Ousmane Sonko, as recounted by Amadou Ba.
Mr. Ba now finds this alleged statement difficult to reconcile with Aminata Touré’s current political positions. He accuses her of attempting to “change history” and reinterpret past events to align with shifting political dynamics and power balances.
Despite the increasingly heated exchanges between the two political factions, Amadou Ba urged for calm and restraint, advocating against escalation. “He pushes us to violence, and we will not do it,” he stated, reiterating Pastef’s commitment to prioritizing political debate over direct confrontation.
